Sustainable development

Challenge of sustainable development

Sustainable development stands for operations that are aimed at securing the possibilities of good life for current and future generations. Sustainable development involves three dimensions: ecological, economical and social.

The central question in sustainable development is how we can produce enough energy for the needs of valuable life while protecting the environment.

The problem is being solved among numerous scientific fields from nanotechnology to fusion technology. We need the international cooperation of sciences – especially engineering sciences, biology, physics and chemistry – and investments in new energy research.

Consumption is increasing everywhere

It is estimated that the earth’s population will be eight billion in 2020. The growing need for energy will mostly be covered with fossil fuels. In practice, coal is the only usable fuel in many poor countries.
